Interfaces
Each interface is associated with a single transducer type, and allows the
system to display the discrete instrument functions associated with that transducer.
But here is where the magic comes into play: combining two or
more interfaces gives more functionality to the system.
The most complicated system has nine interfaces, and can bend the mind of most sailors.
However, this level of modules is not essential, at least not at first.
But as your sailing ability increases so can your performance expectations by adding on interfaces and sensors.
Any
number of these modules may be connected to the system, but many combinations fail to provide synergism.
For example, it would be pointless to have a
polar curve module if the system doesn't also have Boatspeed and wind interfaces, since true wind is the required input for the polar.
The normal progression of interfaces are Boatspeed, wind, compass, GPS, polar, and PC.
